Controller

Family-owned retail chain with multiple store locations across Missouri and Illinois is are seeking a Controller to join the leadership team. This is a key position that manages all accounting and administrative operations and plays a key role, working closely with the CEO, VP of Operations, and store managers. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who values accuracy, accountability, and collaboration — and who appreciates a company culture that promotes work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete monthly financial statements on a timely basis
• Ensure all accounts are 100% accurate and closed on a timely basis
• Manage Accounts Payable (AP) — on time and accurate
• Prepare and present weekly financial reports (Mondays by 10 a.m.)
• Conduct inventory audits monthly and quarterly
• Complete bank reconciliations
• Monitor and manage cash balances and cash flow
• Maintain accurate and updated depreciation schedules
• Lead the annual budgeting process
• Ensure all tax filings are submitted on time
• Oversee expense control efforts
• Manage payroll — on time and accurate
• Administer 401(k) plan
• Handle unemployment claims and insurance policy reviews
• Supervise all HR management functions
• Manage Epicor software updates and administration
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with business systems, including phones and security
